This is a field-based program with substantial time spent outdoors. All students must wear long pants and closed-toed shoes when in the field. We also recommend you wear a hat, dress in layers, and bring substantial sunscreen and insect repellant.
All students are expected to bring the items listed below:
Residence Hall Room
- Extra blanket (optional)
- Extra towels and washcloths (optional)

Clothing and Accessories
Summer in Front Royal is hot and humid, with cooler evenings and occasional rain.
- Clothing appropriate for field work in all conditions. These should be clothes that are OK to get dirty; you’ll be moving through forests, fields, and rivers!
- Pants (jeans are fine, but no leggings or skinny jeans)
- Long-sleeved shirt
- Short-sleeved shirt
- Lightweight jacket
- Rain gear
- Long socks
- Hiking boots or athletic shoes
- Hat
