Experience

Dr. Leimgruber directs the Conservation Ecology Center and the Conservation GIS Lab at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, VA. Peter uses geospatial analysis technology (e.g., GIS, GPS tracking, satellite mapping) to study and conserve extinction-prone species, such as Asian elephant, tiger, giant panda, Przewalski’s horse, Mongolian gazelle, and many more. He is particularly interested in addressing conservation challenges concerning the mobility of large mammals and of human elephant conflict.
