Prerequisites

Semester in Conservation, Biodiversity and Society: Students should have completed a minimum of 45 credits of college course work, including courses in the natural or social sciences.

Semester in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation: Students should have completed a minimum of 60 credits of college course work, including at least one upper level ecology course (BIOL 308, EVPP 301 + 302, INTS 401, permission from instructor or equivalent upper level ecology course from an accredited University or College. Successful completion of Conservation, Biodiversity and Conservation semester will also serve as a prerequisite.

Semester in Endangered Species Conservation: Students should have completed a minimum of 60 credits of college course work, including at least one upper level ecology course (BIOL 308, EVPP 301 + 302, INTS 401, permission from instructor or equivalent upper level ecology course from an accredited University or College. Successful completion of Conservation, Biodiversity and Conservation semester will also serve as a prerequisite.

*Note that Semester participants will be required to undergo a federal security background investigation and fingerprinting through the Smithsonian Office of Protection Services before the semester begins. Accepted students will be assisted through this process.

Non-Mason Students

All non-Mason students who are admitted to the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation need to apply to Mason as a non-degree student after receiving their acceptance letter. To apply, please visit http://admissions.gmu.edu/ApplyNow/ and choose the Undergraduate application, even if you have already graduated.

IMPORTANT: The $70 application fee is waived for students who are only applying to an SMSC program. Please contact Robert Barrett, Assistant Director of Recruitment and Outreach at rbarret@gmu.edu for instructions on how to qualify for the waiver.
