SMSC has a large variety of spaces available to accommodate and support your event or conference.

Meeting Space

Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation offers the use of several types of meeting rooms in the Academic Building and Residence Hall. All are equipped for seated participants at tables and chairs. In most cases, the tables and chairs in our meeting rooms can be rearranged in a configuration to meet your event needs (See Room Configurations). If your event requires a different setup, please let us know and we will make accommodations.


  • Additional A/V charge is mandatory for groups larger than 40 guests.
  • There are additional fees for lab support, lab supplies, classroom technology support, staff support outside normal business hours, custodial and maintenance staff.
  • Use of some spaces will be dependent upon undergraduate enrollment in the courses during the regular academic year.

Dining Areas

The SMSC Dining Commons is equipped to provide guests three meals a day with a tremendous variety of choices.  Different stations provide a changing menu of hot entrees, sandwiches, salads, soups, pasta, and desserts with a focus on local and sustainably-sourced products. The dining commons has flexible seating, including an outdoor patio with pergola to best enjoy the mountain views.

You can choose to have your meals served at the on-campus dining location or have boxed meals prepared. Catered buffets are also available depending on your event needs. Based on your schedule, coffee breaks are often popular for conference and event guests.

During the summer, most of our dining facilities operate on restricted schedules, so it is important to make arrangements for your conference in advance. We will work with you to determine the minimum number of meals your event attendees will require each day. If your group is interested in private dining, we are able to accommodate groups of 25 and less in our private dining space. This space is equipped with audio/visual equipment and requires an A/V charge during use.

Please let us know of any dietary restrictions you may have prior to your visit, so that we may accommodate your needs.


At SMSC, we offer two types of housing options for conference and event guests. The Residence Hall has two smaller conference rooms available for meetings of up to 10 guests.
